En El Destino: Grupo Abra has delegated the commercial management of Avianca in Brazil to Gol's sales teams

Grupo Abra has handed control of Avianca's commercial operations in Brazil to the sales teams of Gol. This strategic delegation aims to merge Gol's domestic sales strength with Avianca's extensive international route network.

Gol's personnel will now manage all relationships with travel agencies, consolidators, and corporate clients within the Brazilian market for Avianca. The change is effective immediately.

A Strategic Market Move

Otto Gergye, Avianca's Chief Commercial Officer, called the development excellent news for partners and clients. He stated that Brazil is a strategic market for both Avianca and the parent Grupo Abra.

Gergye highlighted Gol's role in democratizing air travel within Brazil. He said the synergy between the two airlines will now connect Brazil to the world more robustly.

Mateus Pongeluppi, Gol's Chief Commercial Officer, described assuming Avianca's representation as a natural evolution within the group. He said Gol will apply its local coverage, experience, and leadership to serve Avianca's travel agency and commercial partners. This, he claimed, will multiply business and connectivity opportunities for the entire Brazilian market.

Avianca's Brazilian Operation

Avianca currently operates 56 weekly frequencies in Brazil. These flights connect major Brazilian cities to Bogotá's El Dorado International Airport.

The specific routes are as follows:

From its Bogotá hub, Avianca provides connecting flights to 80 destinations across the Americas and Europe. This network is now being marketed in Brazil by Gol's sales force.

A Reciprocal Model

This commercial arrangement is not new for the group. Avianca previously managed Gol's sales in several other regions back in 2023.

At that time, Avianca handled Gol's commercial relationships in Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, and Central America. The latest move in Brazil effectively reciprocates that model.

The report, sourced from REPORTUR.mx, also notes Grupo Abra's recent acquisition of Sky Airline. The group now controls Avianca, Gol, Wamos, and Sky. It manages Sky's operations through a new independent company.

This structure is designed to ensure strong governance. It aims to preserve Sky's autonomy and minimize potential impacts on its employees, customers, and partners. The setup also seeks to reduce risks associated with the transaction.

The shift in Brazilian sales management marks another step in Grupo Abra's strategy to integrate its portfolio of airlines. It leverages the local dominance of one carrier to boost the commercial reach of another.
