El Salvador's passport has dropped one place to 65th in the Passport Reports global ranking, with its mobility score decreasing to 129 points.
El Salvador's passport has slipped one position in a global ranking. According to a September 15, 2026 update from Passport Reports, the Salvadoran passport now ranks 65th worldwide with a mobility score of 129, down from 64th place and 130 points previously.
The change is attributed to a single destination altering its entry rules. Passport Reports states that Laos, previously listed as a visa-on-arrival country for Salvadorans, now requires a visa to be obtained in advance. This reduced the number of visa-on-arrival destinations from 43 to 42, causing the one-point score decrease.
Salvadoran passport holders can currently enter 80 destinations without needing a visa beforehand. Passport Reports cautions that its list counts destinations and territories under its own methodology and may not represent 80 sovereign states. Travelers should also note that visa-free access does not guarantee automatic entry, as immigration authorities can impose requirements like a return ticket, proof of accommodation, sufficient funds, or limits on the length of stay.

Additional travel access options
Beyond the 80 visa-free destinations, Salvadorans have other travel pathways. Passport Reports currently lists 42 destinations where they can obtain a visa on arrival and seven that require an electronic travel authorization (eTA). Combining all these categories-visa-free, visa-on-arrival, and eTA-gives the Salvadoran passport its total mobility score of 129 points.
In contrast, 69 destinations require Salvadorans to obtain a visa before travel. Notable destinations in this category, according to Passport Reports, include the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
