ADO opens airport route to 10 central hotels
ADO will launch a new bus service on August 28, linking 10 downtown hotels to Cancún International Airport for 180 pesos. The route offers two departures each direction and aims to compete with taxis that can cost up to 700 pesos.
New Airport Route
ADO will begin a new bus line on Friday, August 28, connecting the city centre to Cancún International Airport. The service will run twice a day from the downtown terminal, with departures at 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. From the airport, buses will leave at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The fare is 180 pesos, roughly ten dollars, for adults.
Hotel Stops and Schedule
The buses will make four stops at hotels in the city centre: Adhara, Wyndham Garden, City Express and Four Points. These stops are part of a partnership between ADO and 20 hotels in the downtown area. The schedule and stops were announced during a press conference where Gerardo Jerez, ADO’s Mobility General Manager, explained the details. The route will also serve 10 hotels in total, providing a convenient option for guests.
Industry Impact
Alberto Hernández, president of the downtown hotels committee of the Association of Hotels of Cancún, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres (AHCPMIM), said the service will benefit participating hotels by offering guests an alternative to taxis. He noted that a taxi from the airport can charge as much as 700 pesos (about 41 dollars) to bring or take a guest to the airport. "The tourist can choose between taxi or ADO. I believe there is a market for both," Hernández added.
The new bus line is expected to help offset the 15-20 percent drop in hotel occupancy in the city centre compared with previous years, largely due to a reduction in flight seats. For the low-season months of September and October, occupancy is projected to reach 40 percent.
Challenges and Future Plans
In June, authorised tourist transport companies operating at Cancún International Airport reported an increase in irregular services, which they say has reduced their revenues by up to 30 percent. The new ADO route aims to provide a reliable alternative.
The partnership will also offer a return route in the near future, further expanding options for travellers.
