New Floating Dock in Nichupté to Enhance Boat Tours
A new floating dock is set to be installed in Pok Ta Pok, Cancún, to promote water activities and enhance boat tours in the Nichupté lagoon system.

The city of Cancún is poised to welcome a new floating dock in the Pok Ta Pok area, aimed at promoting recreational water activities such as boat tours and excursions through the Nichupté lagoon system. This initiative is expected to cater to the growing demand for water-based activities in the region.
## Project Overview
The proposed project involves the construction of a floating dock measuring 11.164 meters in length and 1.985 meters in width, situated on a 1,350.7 square meter site along Paseo Pok-Ta-Pok in the municipality of Benito Juárez. According to the Environmental Impact Statement (MIA), the dock will be designed to facilitate boat tours and other water activities, leveraging the existing tourism infrastructure in the area.
The new dock will be a prefabricated, floating structure, with a concrete wall to be built on land to secure it in place. This design allows for the dock to be installed without directly intervening with the lagoon's floor, minimizing potential environmental impacts. The project is also expected to generate economic benefits, including temporary and permanent job opportunities, during its various stages.
## Environmental Considerations
Although the dock will be situated near the Nichupté lagoon system, the study suggests that no native vegetation will need to be removed, nor will wildlife be affected, as the site is largely devoid of natural vegetation and no fauna was encountered during the MIA surveys. The area is described as urbanized, surrounded by private villas and a golf course, with the natural environment already modified by tourism and urban development.
## Tourism Initiatives
The new dock is part of a broader effort to enhance tourism infrastructure in the region. Recently, the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, announced the launch of "PuenteAndo", an initiative aimed at converting the Nichupté Bridge into a space for physical activity, family gatherings, and appreciation of one of Cancún's most iconic landscapes. As part of this initiative, the bridge will be closed to traffic on the last Sunday of each month, promoting a more pedestrian-friendly experience.
The installation of the new floating dock in Nichupté is expected to further boost the local tourism industry, providing visitors with enhanced opportunities to explore the region's natural beauty and engage in recreational water activities.
