All Nippon Airways (ANA) has started using robots to provide remote passenger service at regional airports across Japan. The airline began operations with the "newme"robots, developed by avatarin, on August 21, 2026, with a gradual rollout planned."newme"robots will be gradually implemented at five Japanese airports."newme" robots positioned in regional airports.
This proposal allows the airline to offer support even during periods with fewer staff at local terminals, including times without flight departures or arrivals.
Consequently, the team responsible for service does not need to be physically present at the same airport as the passenger to respond to queries.
ANA to evaluate passenger experience
This implementation is part of the ANA Group's medium-term strategy, which aims to expand the integration between digital resources and the work performed by the company's teams.
At this stage, the company reportedly intends to evaluate the effects of remote service on the passenger experience before defining the project's next steps. ANA and avatarin also state they aim to combine technological and digital resources to develop new forms of customer service and contribute to more sustainable operations in the aviation sector.
