Fiji Airways to Launch Flights to Western Sydney Airport
Fiji Airways will begin direct flights from Nadi to the new Western Sydney International Airport in March 2027, operating three times weekly with Boeing

Fiji Airways will launch direct flights between Nadi (NAN) and Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) starting March 19, 2027. The route will be operated with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft configured with 170 seats across two classes.
The new service will add over 53,000 annual seats to the market between Fiji and Western Sydney. It will complement the airline's existing routes to Australia, which include Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Gold Coast, Melbourne, and Sydney's Kingsford Smith Airport.
Flight Schedule and Details
Flights will operate three times per week on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays. The airline provided the following schedule for the new route.
| Flight Number | Route | Departure Time | Arrival Time | Days of Operation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FJ 991 | Nadi (NAN) to Sydney (WSI) | 19:10 (local) | 22:55 (local) | Monday, Friday, Sunday |
| FJ 990 | Sydney (WSI) to Nadi (NAN) | 23:55 (local) | 04:55+1 (local) | Monday, Friday, Sunday |
The timings are designed to help connections at the Nadi hub for travelers continuing to destinations like Tonga and Samoa.
Strategic Importance and Market Position
With this move, Fiji Airways becomes the sixth confirmed airline to serve the new Western Sydney International Airport. It joins Air New Zealand, Jetstar, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, and Vietjet Air.
Paul Scurrah, the Managing Director and CEO of Fiji Airways, highlighted the route's broader significance. He stated it would boost tourism and create jobs. Scurrah called Western Sydney one of the fastest-growing regions in New South Wales.
"A direct route makes it easier for Australians wanting to vacation in Fiji," Scurrah said. "This translates to more visitors, more jobs, and more opportunities for our tourism sector."
Connecting Communities and Supporting Tourism
The airline also emphasized the social value of the new connection. Western Sydney is home to one of the largest Fijian communities outside Fiji itself. The route will help keep this diaspora connected with family and friends back home.
Fiji Airways framed the service as a key part of consolidating Fiji's status as a premier tourist destination. The airline's announcement focused on the tangible benefits of increased accessibility.
The launch in 2027 aligns with the operational timeline of the new Western Sydney airport infrastructure. It represents a strategic expansion for the Fijian carrier within the competitive Australian aviation market.
