Emirates launches world's first electric Premium Economy

Emirates has launched the world's first electrically adjustable seat for the Premium Economy cabin. The new seat, which features a retractable privacy divider, is debuting on the airline's Airbus A350 fleet.

The seat is installed in a 2-3-2 configuration, with only 28 seats in the Premium Economy cabin. They recline into a cradle position without encroaching on the space of the passenger behind.

Electric seat and privacy features

The electric privacy divider extends the full height of the seatback. During the flight, passengers can raise or lower the divider using the seat controls and lock it in their preferred position. The integrated control unit includes pre-set configurations, such as 'lounge' and 'meal' modes.

The seat also features the U-Dream headrest from Safran Seats. Made of leather, the redesigned headrest offers support for the neck and head, allowing passengers to adjust the wings into various positions. The footrest, also leather and manually operated, provides extra relaxation and reduces leg fatigue.

Wireless charging and onboard entertainment

Wireless charging is another new feature in Premium Economy, allowing passengers to charge compatible devices during the journey. Each seat has USB-C ports and a table with an integrated support to hold a phone during meals or entertainment.

On the new Airbus A350s, passengers will also have access to external aircraft cameras with new side perspectives (left and right) that join the existing ones (front and bottom).

Dining, drinks, and amenity kits

In Premium Economy, the service is similar to Business Class. Passengers enjoy menus inspired by regional cuisine and premium beverages, such as Chandon Vintage Brut 2021.

From September, some selected routes will feature new wines on the list, including Chablis Premier Cru Jean-Marc Brocard 2024, produced in Burgundy, and La Parde de Haut-Bailly 2014, from Bordeaux. In October, the airline will also debut Wiston Estate Brut NV, the first English sparkling wine served onboard, exclusive to the category on flights to the UK.

Besides food and drink, on long-haul flights, customers also receive reusable amenity kits developed in partnership with United for Wildlife. Made with bio-based materials and inspired by threatened species, the kits include botanical skincare products from Aveda and essential items like socks, sleep masks, earplugs, and a toothbrush.

Since launching Premium Economy in 2022, Emirates has continued to expand the cabin across its fleet. The product is now available on all markets operated by the A350. The experience has already won international awards, including 'Best Premium Economy Class' at the Business Traveller Middle East Awards (2024 and 2025) and the title of 'Airline with the Best Premium Economy Class' at the 2025 ULTRAs Awards.
