New Hotel to be Built at Rio de Janeiro's Santos Dumont Airport

The Brazilian government has given the green light for the construction of a new hotel at Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro. The airport's management company, Infraero, will be allowed to lease out a section of the airport for the hotel's construction.

According to the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor), the new hotel will have a built-up area of 11,804 square meters. The MPor stated that the measure will enable a larger project to be installed at the airport with a contractual period "compatible with the time needed for its operation."

The new hotel's construction is expected to be carried out by a private company, as the airport is scheduled to be privatized in the near future. If this happens, the contract for the hotel's construction will be assumed by the new operator.

The Infraero has confirmed that the process for selecting a private company to build the hotel is currently in the planning stage. The company has stated that the deadline for publishing the tender notice, which will include all the details, is by the end of the month.
