American Airlines debuts new Flagship Suite on Brazil-bound
American Airlines has begun flying its Boeing 777-300ER with a new Flagship Suite cabin, with the aircraft operating on routes to South America including
American Airlines started operating its first retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER with a new Flagship Suite cabin on Wednesday, October 2. The inaugural flight for the aircraft connected New York's JFK airport with Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The airline currently has 20 Boeing 777-300ERs in its fleet, and all will undergo the same retrofit to receive the new cabin. These aircraft serve key long-haul international destinations for the carrier, including London, Tokyo, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, and Sydney. Nat Pieper, American's Chief Commercial Officer, stated the aircraft represents "the next evolution of premium travel at American."
The New Cabin Configuration
The retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER features a significantly expanded premium seating layout. The aircraft offers 144 premium seats in total. The new Flagship Suite business class cabin contains 70 seats, each with a privacy door, increased personal storage, and a unique chaise longue seating position.

The redesigned Premium Economy seats feature sculpted headrests, adjustable calf and foot rests, and more storage space. The new interiors incorporate design elements first seen on the carrier's Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR aircraft, which debuted in 2025. They include carefully selected textures, enhanced lighting, and functional comfort details throughout the cabin.
Phasing Out Flagship First
With the expansion of the Flagship Suite product, American Airlines is discontinuing its Flagship First cabins. Ticket sales for the Flagship First cabins on its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will cease starting October 19. Also, as more Airbus A321XLR aircraft join the fleet, Flagship First will also no longer be available for purchase on transcontinental routes for travel starting March 28, 2027.
Flagship Suite Amenities and Service
Revealed in June of last year, the Flagship Suite is American's newest business class product. Its primary differentiator is the inclusion of privacy doors for each seat. The suite experience includes priority check-in, boarding, security, and baggage handling, plus access to the airline's Flagship Lounges. In these lounges, passengers can find a select wine and spirits menu and dishes crafted by chefs. American recently expanded access to its exclusive Flagship Dining, now extending it to all Flagship passengers.
Onboard service in the Flagship Suite begins with the culinary experience. Passengers can choose from multiple dishes designed to pair with award-winning wines. The airline also provides premium amenity kits and bedding developed for relaxation, including a mattress pad and a dual-sided pillow with cooling fabric.
